One of the best parts of living in the Portland area is how close you are to so many great fishing spots! We’ve compiled a few of our favorite locations, along with some general tips. Before You Go

There are a few things you need to keep in mind before you head to the river. Some things you’ll need to consider before you start include:

  • Your Oregon fishing license: an Oregon fishing license is required for residents and nonresidents over the age of 12.
    • You can purchase your license online at the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife website.
  • Your equipment: no trip will be successful without the proper equipment. Make sure to bring along your rod, bait, extra line, and more.

Benson Lake

Located in Cascade Locks, Benson Lake is about 30 minutes from downtown Portland. The lake offers breathtaking views paired with thousands of trouts for you to catch. After you’re done angling, consider stopping by the famous Multnomah Falls!

Bethany Lake Park

Bethany Lake is another great fishing spot near the city. Located in Portland, this park is 42 acres and full of trout. You can also see other wildlife like red-tailed hawks, osprey, and great blue herons!

Carver Park

Located in Oregon City, Carver Park is the meeting point of Clear Creek and the Clackamas River. This is a great spot that has plenty of beautiful views as well as a boat ramp. Keep in mind that there is a daily parking fee.

Clackamette Park

Also in Oregon City, Clackamette Park is at the confluence of the Willamette and Clackamas Rivers. This spot is good for bank fishing. There’s also a boat launch, walking paths, and restrooms.

Lewis and Clark State Recreation Site

This popular site is located near the Sandy and Columbia Rivers in Troutdale. This is one of the most beautiful fishing spots in the Portland area and features grassy land and places to swim too!
